The National Literacy Strategy has been implemented since September 1998 and the Literacy Hour is now well established. This is an hour in each school day when the teachers work with the children on the skills of reading and writing. This hour includes word work, sentence work and text work, the latter including group reading, reading comprehension and writing composition. Although children read every day in school, twice a week they will take home books from the home reading scheme to share with their parents; we also have a weekly free choice library.

The National Numeracy Strategy has been implemented since September 1999 and means a daily Mathematics lesson consisting of mental work, topic and group work.

The school provides a broad and balanced curriculum including Religious Education, Science, ICT, History, Geography, Music, Art, Design Technology and Physical Education. We recognise the importance of developing the 'whole' child and celebrate achievements in all areas.

Religious Education

Religious Education is given in accordance with the National Roman Catholic Syllabus "Here I Am". As a Voluntary Aided Roman Catholic School the basic religious ethos is to be found across the whole curriculum and not just within the Religious Education timetable. The whole aim of the school is the Christian growth of the children, not simply their growth in their own field, but their growing awareness of the world as maturing Christians.

Parents have the right to withdraw children from R.E. & Collective Worship but it is anticipated by the Governing Body that those specifically choosing Catholic Education will wish to lend their support to maintaining both the full spiritual life of the school and those set out in its Mission Statement.
