Admission Policy

St Saviour’s Catholic Infant School is a Catholic Infant School situated in the Diocese of Shrewsbury and is maintained by Cheshire Education Committee. As a Voluntary Aided School, the Governing Body is the Admissions Authority and is responsible for taking decisions on applications for admissions. For the school year commencing September 2005, the Governing Body has set the admissions number at 58.

ADMISSIONS TO THE SCHOOL will be made by the Governing Body in accordance with the stated parental preference subject to the following set of ADMISSIONS CRITERIA forming a priority order where there are more applications for admission than the school has places available.

  1. Baptised Catholic children from the parish of St Saviour’s.
  2. Children who have a brother or sister at the school at the time of admission.
  3. Baptised Catholic children from other parishes.
  4. Non-Catholic children whose parents wish them to have a Catholic education.

    NOTES
    a) All applicants will be considered at the same time and after the closing date for admissions which is in February each year.

    b) All Catholic applicants will be required to produce baptismal certificates.

    c) It is the duty of governors to comply with class size limits at Key Stage One.

    d) If category (1) is oversubscribed, children who satisfy (1) and (2) will have priority over children who satisfy only (1). Subsequently if in this or any other category there are more applications than places available, priority will be given on the basis of distance from home to school, those living nearer to the school having priority.

    e) The Governing Body reserve the right to admit children with proven and exceptional medical and social needs where admission to the school might best help satisfy those exceptional needs, providing that such application is submitted with appropriate evidence or reports from a doctor or social worker. Where applications are received from Catholic and non-Catholic children in public care they will respectively be admitted to the school in that priority order and in advance of the outlined order of criteria.

    f) If an application for admission has been turned down by the Governing Body, parents can appeal to an Independent Appeals Panel. This appeal must be sent in writing to the Clerk to the Governors at the school within 14 days (10 working days) of refusal. The parents must give their reasons for appealing in writing and the decision of the Appeals Panel is binding on the Governors.
  5. The Governing Body reserves the right to admit children with proven and exceptional medical or social needs, for example, if the school is adapted to accommodate physically handicapped pupils and such a pupil seeks admission.
  6. If an application for admission has been turned down by the Governing Body, parents have the right to appeal against the decision. The procedure will be notified to parents who write to the Headteacher .

St Saviour’s Catholic Infant School caters for boys and girls from 4 to 7 years old. The pupil/teacher ratio and the date of admission of pupils are dependent on the regulations of the Cheshire Education Authority and the Shrewsbury Diocese. Children whose 5th birthdays fall between 1st September and 31st August the following year (inclusive) will be admitted in the September, although they may attend part –time only for the first few weeks.
