'Animal Magic' work by Year 3 & 4 pupils, Class 3
In our music lessons, we have been exploring descriptive sounds in our topic of Animal Magic. We listened to two pieces of music about mythical creaturs: The Firebird and The Bellipong and we imagined what they might look like. We really used our imaginations to write fact files and descriptions and then used these to help us create pictures of the creatures.
The Firebird is a ballet by the Russian composter Stravinsky (1882 - 1971). The ballet was first performed in Paris in 1910, that is nearly 100 years ago. It tells the legend of the Firebird who helps the young Prince kill the ogre and free his people.
The music helped us with our descriptions; the sounds describe what is happening. The Dance of the Firebird is a fast piece of music, with high pitched melodies and lots of instruments playing. The Bellipong is a very slow piece of music, sung in a very low pitch with a few low pitched instruments.
