The Curriculum

At St Saviour's Catholic Primary School we believe that primary education is a critical stage in children’s development. As well as giving them the essential tools for learning, primary education is about children experiencing the joy of discovery, solving problems, being creative in writing, art, music, developing their self-confidence as learners and maturing socially and emotionally.

Our goal is to combine excellence in teaching with enjoyment of learning.

We use the new Primary Framework to extend the sort of support provided by the Literacy and Numeracy strategies to all of the foundation subjects. The curriculum is taught, as far as possible, in a cross-curricular way to ensure full coverage of the National Curriculum and beyond.

The Foundation Stage provides the children in the Reception Classes with a variety of practical experiences across the six Areas of Learning - Personal and Social Development, Communication, Language and Literacy, Mathematical Development, Knowledge and Understanding of the World, Creative Development and Physical Development. As the children move up the school, into Key Stage 1, then Key Stage 2, these foundations are built upon as they continue to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding.
