Match Report 7th May 2009
vs William Stockton @ William Stockton

Final Score – William Stockton 15 – St Saviours 13

Team – Charlie Hughes (captain), Anna Stones (vice-captain), Kieran Patterson, Rose Holmes, James White-Burns, Dominika Sadczuk, Adam Henry, Rosie Webber.

' What an exciting match for our first friendly! This was a new experience for the team, as we played a long match of 12 minutes per half, rather than the usual 7, but the players threw themselves into the game and played right up the final whistle. The match started off well for St Saviours, with us scoring first, and then the two teams traded a couple of tries each. William Stockton then took the lead, and raced to a score of 7-3. However, we dug deep and by half time had pulled the score back to 8-6.

The second half was just as intense as the first, with tries being traded regularly. As the players from both sides became tired, there were more mistakes from both teams, and more gaps on the field. As the final minute approached, St Saviours managed to pull the score back to 14-13 and had the ball in their hands. Could we snatch a draw? We were into the last 10 seconds, when William Stockton came up with the ball and raced the length of the pitch to score the try that sealed the victory.

The game was played with great spirit by both teams, with handshakes and cheers all round after the game, and a good positive atmosphere throughout the match. A big thank you needs to go out Mr Shipton and the William Stockton team for being great hosts, and another thank you to the parents and staff from St Saviours who came along to show support. It was very much appreciated. '
Mr Smith

The Captain’s word – 'We enjoyed it and we never gave up. The team spirit was amazing, and we played as a team. Some of the rules were different and it took a bit of getting used to. The other team was fast and played fairly. Thanks to Mr Smith and Mrs Norbury for making this arrangement. '
