Walking Bus

St. Saviour's Walking Bus was set up in April 2008 to help work towards making going to and arriving at school safer. Children encouraged to walk to school will be getting more exercise and learn how to cross roads safely etc. Walking to school is a safe, fun and environmentally friendly way of getting to and from school and will also take a number of cars away from the school gate. Children are rewarded for walking with stickers and gifts.

The Hope Farm Walking Bus is being funded by Carillion who are at present improving the junctions at Deeside Park. Kevin Lucas, the project manager and Mandy Clarke, the public liaison officer, have presented some new Hi-Visibility jackets and goodies for the children.

The Walking Bus team at St Saviour's would also like to thank PCSO Claire Whomes and PC Matthew Hull who have been working with the School's Traffic Committee to make our community safer, by helping and supporting the children and the school.

Claire Whomes said "This area is a great place to live, work and visit. We know from facts and figures about crimes that Ellesmere Port & Neston is getting safer all the time and I'm confident that we can work together with the community to ensure things continue improving. We are happy to help St Saviour’s achieve their goal of a safer environment around the school gates."

To Join Us

All you need to do is sign up. Forms are available from the Walking Bus Coordinator or the School Office

Please Note: Spaces for children are limited by the number of parent volunteer helpers we have.

Adult Helpers

Volunteers are essential for the successful running of the bus, the more help we have the more the buses can grow and the less often helpers will be needed.

If any parents/grandparents are interested in helping us they can either approach a member of the walking bus or ask at either school office.

All our volunteers are CRB checked.

Sponsors

Carillion

The St Saviour's Walking Bus has been supported through sponsorship, and our thanks go to the companies and individuals involved.

Carillon presently offer us ongoing support by giving children and adults safety clothing and prizes. We also thank Port Gates, Salsa Locura, Sunnyfield, the parents / grandparents and staff at St Saviour’s for their support, and all of the volunteers who help with the St Saviour’s walking bus.

Urenco have recently been very generous donating pencil cases and high-vis haversacks which were given out at the end of the Autumn term

We appreciate your support and wouldn't be able do it without you.

Benefits

Each child who is part of a Walking Bus is potentially one less vehicle on the road. This eases traffic congestion, increases safety and reduces pollution. The benefits of the Walking Bus reach the whole community and include:

  • a safe and convenient way for children to travel to school;
  • improvement of health and well being of children through walking and talking;
  • an opportunity for children to learn road sense and traffic safety;
  • reduction of traffic congestion around schools;
  • contributing to a sustainable environment;
  • opportunities for children and parents to develop friendships and a sense of place and community in their neighbourhood.
